Richlands Real Estate

Located northwest of Jacksonville and a short drive away from Wilmington, the town of Richlands has a lot to offer.  People love the area for its historic downtown, which includes historic residences and commercial properties, new home communities and quiet, small-town atmosphere.

Employment in Richlands

Agriculture has been at the forefront of the Richlands economy since a post office was first established there, in 1806.  Not surprising given the name, agriculture has continued to play a prominent role in the area.  A few of the other employment options in Richlands include working in one of the shops or restaurants that make up the historic downtown area.

Farming Field

Some of the residents in Richlands work in Jacksonville, a short drive away via Highway 24. Beulaville, Chinquapin, Kenansville and Highway 40 are also a relatively easy drive away from Richlands, which was first incorporated in 1880.

Richlands History and Things to Do

A few of the lesser known facts surrounding the history of Richlands is that it was the first place in Onslow County to have a library and a museum, as well as the first to elect a female mayor.  Richlands is home to a number of historic sites, including the Avirett-Stephens Plantation, an events venue on 83 acres, Taylor Farm, Venters Farm, and the Richlands Historic District.

Aside from the many opportunities for hunting, fishing, hiking and bird watching, in nearby areas such as Croatan National Forest, Angola Bay Game Land and Holly Shelter Game Land, the town of Richlands also includes Venters Park, which has a playground and picnic area, Onslow County Museum, a library and Richlands/Steed County Park, site of an 18-hole disc golf course, soccer and baseball fields, tennis and volleyball courts.
